I am in the mood for a specific kind of romance. Here are the elements I'm hoping to find.

    • I'll say up top that I am not really interested in explicit "spice", although I'm not at all opposed to sexual content. I want the focus to be on the characters and their arc, and if there is sexual content, I want it to feel meaningful.
    • Make it COMPLICATED. I love all different flavors of forbidden romance, separation, etc.
    • Deep-longing. Pining. Please. Slow burn is perfectly fine, although not a direct requirement if the longing and pining is there without it.
    • Historical fiction is especially up my alley, but I do enjoy other settings if the vibes are right.
    • I want writing that feels sweeping and well-constructed. Writing that really makes me feel.
    • If I cry, it will elevate my reading experience. Please, please, break my heart (and then give me a happy ending).
    • Extra bonus points, but not required at all: Childhood friends to lovers is my absolute weak point.

Thank you to anyone who has a recommendation to share!

Have you read Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren? It isn’t historical fiction but friends to lovers to strangers to lovers with two timelines and lots of reasons to cry.
