My friend is 19 Years old and is studying B.D.S. at university he has been reading books for the past 2/3 years and his birthday is on 21 June 2024 , I need suggestions for books to gift him.

I can confirm that he has read the following series of books :-

    1) Harry Potter – J.K. Rowling (read all books at least 5 times )
    2) Percy Jackson – Rick Riordan ( read once )
    3) Sherlock Holmes – Arthur Conan Doyle (Has read or owns most of the books )
    4) Orphan X – Gregg Hurwitz ( Read first 2/3 books and then gave up on the series )
    5) The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel – Michael Scott (Read the first 3 books then discontinued the series )

Also I know that my friend enjoys books where the main character is powerful enough to get past most his challenges easily but still not powerful enough to beat his final challenge easily (Think Harry Potter if he was a bit smarter (and trained himself for war ) and slightly stronger. )

Any recommendations will be helpful 😀

    1. I would recommend all of Andrzej Sapkowski’s ‘The Witcher’ novels. The first two – ‘The Last Wish’ and ‘Sword of Destiny’ are short story collections that more introduce the world of ‘The Witcher’ and to the protagonist of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter for hire. Books three – seven are part of an overarching narrative whilst the eighth is a spin off. The books turn the fantasy genre on it’s head and uses “the prophecy” trope a lot more different than series’ such as Harry Potter does. The books divulge into the themes of morality such as choosing the lesser of two evils and makes for a very compelling read and could never recommend this series enough to anyone (even though the ending is sort-of underwhelming).
