It might not be your favourite book, or author. It should accessible, gripping and a great story to try and inspire a lifelong passion for reading in someone who currently doesn’t have that enjoyment. You might only have one chance!

The Martian
Slaughterhouse five comes to mind. I can’t imagine not being entertained by that book.
Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins. Whimsical, philosophical, sexy, funny…
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. It’s short (about 100 pages), has brilliant narration and you never really know what’s going on until the final sentence. Check it out
