This one is sort of specific, but for anybody looking for a modern rendition of Pinocchio, this is the book for you. For anybody looking for something a little funny, semi-fantasy, where the feeling of loneliness is explored — a loneliness that persists in the presence of others — with a bittersweet ending, this is the story for you.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans are officially extinct, Victor Lawson (a human who aspires to be an inventor) lives with his inventory, android father Gio (short for Giovanni) and robot friends in the middle of the forest.
I started reading the book around the same time the video game Lies of P came out—which I immediately starting playing—and recognised that there were a multitude of similarities. I loved this book so much; I've been recommending it everyone I know who reads.
