I don't read but when I watch TV shows there's always that one character who knows soooo much and I know it comes from reading

I'm interested in the environment and animals and I know there's so much knowledge out there I'm missing! I'm interested in hearing fiction and nonfiction suggestions

Like travel/ naturalist books? If so, my favorite is The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiasson. Peter travels with naturalist George Schaller through the mountains of Tibet, on a naturalist mission to study mountain sheep, the bharal. They also hope to catch a glimpse of an elusive ghost of the mountains itself, the snow leopard.

The book follows their mountain travels with a naturalist eye – pointing out plants and insects and many many birds along the way. The author also had a bit of a spiritual thing going on and there’s discussion of Zen Buddhism and also the author coming to terms with the prior death of his wife. It’s a beautiful book.

For books about the animal kingdom you could check out Frans De Waal. He wrote a lot, but would recommend ‘Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are’
