Hi everyone! Around this time last year, I read and absolutely loved “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” by Milan Kundera. I sometimes struggle to stay engaged with novels from beginning to end, but I think Kundera’s combination of compelling character development and tangentially-related philosophical commentary really commanded my attention through the whole book.

Since then, I’ve also read Kundera’s “Immortality,” but I didn’t find the characters or the themes quite as compelling. I also read Haruki Murakami’s “Norwegian Wood”, and while I really enjoyed the story and the character development, I felt myself longing for Kundera’s insightful commentary. I just recently got “Love in the Time of Cholera,” and the first 20-30 pages haven’t totally pulled me in, but I’m still hoping it’ll pick up.

I’ve lately been especially enjoying books focused on relationships and the human condition. And I generally prefer books with a small number of main characters, because I don’t love having to keep track of who’s who (looking at you, “100 Years of Solitude”).

Does anyone have any recommendations based on what I’ve mentioned? Thanks in advance for the recommendations!
