I actually started reading recently, from the past 6 months. I always see posts by book lovers on movies and TV shows inspired by their beloved books and untill now I thought maybe they all are overreacting. But today I was in their shoes and God that was infuriating. I know that it's almost impossible for a movie or a series to be exactly as the book it is based on but boy they screw up a lot and it seems correct that they get bashed for it. Just yesterday I read Percy Jackson 1st book and I liked it so much. I know that there are movies based on these books and a new TV show. I heard good things about the TV show so I was excited to watch it. Cut to the end of second episode, I was hugely disappointed. I literally said WTF out loud so many times while watching. The dialogue, the pacing of the show, the changes made for some very cool scenes and turned them into very bland and flat scenes, everything was wrong about it. The images I had in my mind while reading were majestic and so exciting, the show doesn't felt like anything to me. And finally I dropped it at the end of second episode.

What's your favourite book that felt like this?

Admittedly, I only saw the preview of The Dark is Rising, but I was so appalled I called a friend to vent.

The books had a dark-haired English boy with a large family and were set maybe in the fifties? There was no romance.

The preview had a blond American boy in modern times and had a romantic interest.
