Forgive me if I sound overly negative, but I’ve been struggling recently to find a psychological thriller that is actually good. Like 5/5 good. Or at least 4/5.
I’m due to do a fair bit of travelling in the next few weeks, and my go to for long flights and train journeys are psychological thrillers. I’m talking multiple 12 hour flights, so I NEED to be distracted.
I consulted a Facebook group I’m in and got some recommendations, so I downloaded a bunch and…was disappointed. Some examples:
The Teacher – Freida McFadden
None of this is true – Lisa Jewell
Verity – Colleen Hoover
The girl on the train – Paula Hawkins.
I didn’t hate all of these, but wouldn’t rate any of them highly. I’ve enjoyed Liane Moriarty, and I used to read a lot of Stephen King. Maybe I just have reading fatigue, but I just haven’t felt genuinely satisfied by a psychological thriller novel I’ve read recently.
