I'm trying to read more Gothic books this summer, especially books that showcase or present nature / the nonhuman environment at the forefront of whatever is being expressed. Some examples are Jeff VanderMeer's Annihilation, Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, or even Herman Melville's Moby Dick.

Truly, if you have any Gothic recommendations, I'd love to hear it. If natural environments like a ravenous sea or dark forest are featured–big plus. Castles work too; I like castles. And if there are ruins with vines, mini rivers, and thriving habitats, the plus is exponentially applied. The ruins of a sea vessel or building at sea (e.g. plane, ship, lighthouse, monolith, water castle?? freaking Atlantis!!) would also be sick; I think I'll be looking into H.P. Lovecraft's work as well.

I'm looking for a big list within any timeframe! If you even think a book could apply, I would love to hear it 🙂
