Something that you were required to read at school, but found that you really enjoyed reading. Maybe a book that inspired you to read more of in the same genre, or by the same author.
It’s a short story but The Lottery by Shirley Jackson was so phenomenal, it’s by far the best thing I was assigned to read in school.

Deathwatch. I think it was required freshman year? I haven’t read it since so my memory could be wrong, but the story read like a Shyamalan movie. The Six Sense was huge at the time so I was sucked right in.

Scarlett Letter- but I think I loved it because my teacher was so great at talking about the books we read. There were some really great discussions that came away from reading that book.

Lord of the Flies was probably the best one I read at high school that was “required reading”.
