Hello, fellow readers! Don't get me wrong… I read a lot of buzz-worthy books, some of which are all the rage because of Book-Tok. But, this summer, I'm craving something a little more mature — I'd like both more mature characters, and a more mature writing style. I love all genres (romance, horror, literary, sci-fi, fantasy — you name it, I'll read it!). I'm looking for some things that don't get recommended much. I read a lot, so I've made my way through the buzzy books, the classics, etc. What are your recommendations of things that don't get buzz, and are maybe more appealing to a mid-lifer?
Some things I've loved lately for reference:
Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo (Douglas Stuart)
The Trackers (Charles Frazier)
The Last Chair Lift (John Irving)
O, Beautiful (Jung Yun)
Valentine (Elizabeth Wetmore)
The Shipping News (Annie Proulx)
