Novels about queer failure or sense of it

I'm looking for a book in which the queer protagonist has to live at home while nearly 30 or there about and feels like a failure for doing so. Looking for highbrow lit if possible. Could have happy resolution, could be bleak, something in the vein of The Bell Jar. Thanks!
