I used to love reading, but I stopped almost a year ago because good books would make me feel really sad. Since I already have depression I'm looking for books that don't make that depression WORSE, but I feel like good stories (that I've read) are always sad. I miss being immersed in a good book tho.
Please please please can someone suggest a book that isn't a comedy, that isn't going to leave me in shambles, but is engaging?

The Reckoning by John Grisham is one of the deepest books I’ve ever read.
Children of time by Adrian T. Is a very good book as well.
Are you open to romance? Romance novels would probably fit what you’re looking for. They have almost guaranteed happy endings, they’re not comedies, and the character-driven plot lines are usually engaging. There are lots of sub-genres within romance, though, so I’m not sure what specific books to recommend.
If you’re not open to romance, the mystery/detective genre could also work. Basically anything by Agatha Christie would be great.
