When do you find you stop selecting reads by specific authors. I'm a firm believer that not every book will be an author's best and even some of the greatest authors can have some really poor books. However, how many books do you find you have to read before you just decide that an author isn't for you?

If I DNF a book the first time I’m reading from an author, I’m probably not giving that author a second chance.
It depends on how it goes. I have had some that I dump before halfway in the first book, others that I get through a couple before deciding to move on. The grading isn’t just a pass/fail.
For me it depends on what I’m not liking.
For example, I tried one of Jennifer L Armentrout’s books (not From Blood and Ash). I found the writing/editing to be really bad so I wouldn’t give her another shot
If it’s just a character I don’t like though then they go away after one book so I’d give that author another chance
I think if I read two unrelated books by the same author and didn’t like both I’d probably give up
I did this recently with Pynchon.
I started reading The Crying of Lot 49, which is usually a good starting point, but I didn’t understand any of it. I the. Read Inherent Vice, and while it was okay, I still didn’t grasp much of what he was trying to express.
Finally, I gave Gravity’s Rainbow a shot and basically noped out.
Life’s too short to read books you aren’t enjoying.
