So the book I’m currently reading is “It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover where it’s about a girl who falls in love with this guy who is abusive towards her. The story circles around the pov of physical abuse in a toxic relationship which I have to say is pretty interesting especially with how detailed and descriptive the author is. The character just seems so real and the entire story seems based on a true story which I believe some parts of it is based on the expierence of the author. Highly recommend as a great read, especially with the movie about the book coming out in August!

Anyway, I’m mad because the character in more than one occasion finds herself in abusive situations with her man and kind of knows she has to leave but doesn’t because of the excuses she makes up for the guy. Okay fine. I get it I was in a toxic relationship as well so in many cases it can be really hard to leave because people believe it gets better or they can fix that person and change them from that toxic trait. I was a hard believer in trying to change my ex from his toxic ways but realized I can’t once I discovered my own self-worth. But, each time the two have an encounter he gets more physically abusive and seems to be less genuine with his apologies because well, he probably knows she’ll come back to him. And sure enough, she always takes him back! I’m mad because I guess I have a hard time understanding why she continues to remain in that situation. I can’t say it’s because she’s scared because she doesn’t seem scared to leave (at least I think). But because her father was very abusive with her mother, it seems like that’s the model she has in a relationship since she keeps referring to their relationship. But wouldn’t that make her not want to be in that situation? Wouldn’t that be the motivation to find better than what her mother had?

Excuse me for those of you who may view me as ignorant. I’m not trying to be. I’m just genuinely having a hard time understanding why someone as strong, bold, and brave as her would continue to remain in that situation knowing that is not what she wants and she needs to leave. Perhaps maybe y’all can help me understand that. I would like another perspective just to have a better understanding and go back reading it differently.

Have any of you had to take a break from a book because a character just pissed you off that much?
