The last book I read was Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, its a YA sci-fi book where all the MCs are in a space squad (Basically they go on missions) and the leader of the squad rescued a girl from an intergalactic space wreck she’d been stuck in (in stasis) for like 220 years. She has telekinesis btw.

    THE CHARACTERS:

    top-ranked squad leader

alien warrior (who looks like an elf)

    possible sociopath scientist

the squad leader’s sister, aka the girl of a thousand ex-boyfriends

alien smart-ass tech whiz who wears an exosuit to help him move

    squad leader’s bestie pilot

the girl who woke up from stasis and now has cool magic powers (not technically in the squad but she’s an honorary member)

i liked it, and honestly all the characters are awesome. My favorites are probably the two aliens. Plus there are little info pages that give Hitchhiker’s Guide vibes lol. So what about you guys? What book did you read last?

I just finished the Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlmann. It’s a completely generic fantasy quest novel but that’s OK because the point isn’t the quest, it’s the characters and their interactions and it’s done incredibly well. Especially the main character, Kinch… We’re used to celtic stereotypes being used to create elves and dwarves and wizards and such, this is the first time I’ve seen Irishman From A Sink Estate as a main character.

It fades in the last third but I absolutely loved the earlier parts, I found myself reading it all in the accent and that’s always a good sign.
