Name a Horror/Thriller book you believe is disgracefully unsung, specifically their characters

I’m looking for intriguing books to read that have been grossly overlooked. Mainly books that have very exciting and interesting characters. Ideally a book a horror or psychological thriller not of the too bold with supernatural (think The Shining)
