Hank the Cowdog is really fun with kids of this age. Any of the Redwall books are also awesome.

Go with percy jackson. Not much in similar with Agatha Christie with it being a fantasy but i have yet to meet someone who’s kids didn’t like it (and for all your sake avoid the movies)
