I re-read the manga Blame! recently and I'm desperately in need of content that feels similar. For those that haven't read Blame! I suggest you fix that. It's 80% Moody panels of intense landscapes of a very dead megacity, 10% plots involving whatever group of people the protagonist has stumbled across this time and 10% a largely unimportant overall plot to save humanity.

A book that gives me a similar feeling (actual novel, not a manga) is Piranesi. You see the world through the eyes of a man who only knows the world he currently resides in. An infinite house whose upper floors are filled with clouds, lower floors are flooded with ocean and every single room is filled with varied statues that never repeat. It's 80% the man trying to explore and document the house and 20% some plots I won't spoil here.

tl;dr the title sums it up. Looking for exploration of improbably and mostly dead locations. The two example have largely "dead" worlds but idk if that's a requirement.

    1. Elsewhere by Dean Koontz was really good. I don’t want to spoil anything so you can either Google it for a preview or I’ll respond back if you want me to tell you a bit about it
