This year and last I’ve been in a real book funk. Once again I find myself rereading and relistening to the Nevermoor series just so I can finish something. I keep starting books and taking forever to finish them, or stopping about halfway through. The few books I’ve managed to finish this year are by T. Kingfisher and Olivia Atwater. I also recently reread Assistant to the Villian. I’ve started many books and am just not getting hooked.

Other series that I’ve often reread that give me the same whimsical vibe of Nevermoor are Harry Potter and Amari and the Night Brothers series. The book or series does not need to be middle grade. I don’t mind books with romance but don’t want it to be the main plot point.

I’ve read The House in the Cerulean Sea and liked it, but don’t have a desire to revisit it. I’ve read The Very Secret Society of Witches and liked that. I do plan on revisiting that world eventually. I’ve tried to read/listen to Legends and Lattes and Weyward about a half a dozen times each and I like them okay enough but then get bored. I’ve read some of Tamora Pierce, particularly liked her Protector of the Small series, but I don’t think hers are whimsical like what I’m in search of.

TL;LR: In search of a standalone book or book series that will give me the same sense whimsy as the Nevermoor book series by Jessica Townsend.
