    1. Harumi Murakami might be the novelist you are looking for. His writing transports you to a world so unlike your own and makes you believe it. Although he doesn’t really fit your search for crime fiction, his novels are well worth your time.

Definitely would recommend Keigo Higashino’s work! I started with The Devotion of Suspect X which I really enjoyed.

I also liked The Tokyo Zodiac Murders by Soji Shimada.

    3. Edogawa Ranpo had a huge hand in developing Japanese mystery and trillers. Some of his Kogoro Akechi (essentially his Sherlock Holmes) stories has been translated.

There is also The Decagon House Murders by Ayatsuji Yukito. He also has Another. People describe Another as Japanese Final Destination, which is partly true. Since Ayatsuji is a mystery writer, the main plot focuses mire on figuring out why the class is cursed and how to stop it than the horror itself. For example, the book is around 500 pages and takes a while until the first death happens.
