I‘ve recently read Killers of the Flower Moon and The Wager by David Grann and really loved how the historic aspects are so well integrated into a cohesive story.
I‘m currently into Patrick Radden Keefe (Say Nothing & Empire of Pain).
Looking for similar books in that niche.

King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild – It’s been years since I’ve read it, but I remember finding it to be completely engrossing. It’s a work of historical nonfiction, but the authors weaves the narrative together so well that it draws you in, while not sparing you any of the horrors of the events described
