Okay, as a person living in Russia, I will say that like other countries, we have books that have not been distributed outside the country. There are good ones, there are bad ones. And we have one of the worst romantic books.
It's called "My Best Enemy" by Eli Frey and God, how bad she was. So that you understand what I mean. Think of the Colleen Hoover books, and now imagine what is worse. The book begins with the fact that the main character is in the hospital on a drip with scars from cigarette burns, due to the fact that her love interest drinked her unconscious and threw her in the woods, and she does not tell about this because they were friends in childhood. I'm not kidding, she's just saying that in her mind.
The whole book is like that, and it wasn't clear to me whether it romanticized violence or not. I thank at least that the end is good, but the author is trying to convince us of this.
The main characters are twisted to the maximum negative qualities. A very dumb heroine and a very violent hero. The second one understands that he is sick and he is trying to fight it, but this does not justify him in any way, because he is not just mocking, he mutilates the heroine and her friends, stopping only when they almost die.
I am glad that only we have this book, because the books "After" tell about a more normal relationship in comparison.
