My niece had The Borrowers read to her when she was younger and now rereads the series herself, years later, periodically — she never stopped being interested. I believe the Borrowers are tiny humans but she interpreted them as mice and/or believes mice are actually tiny humans.
So I was thinking she might like a book about rodents, rats or mice probably. She is a precocious 10 year old and can likely handle a book written for adults — but if there is a lot of violence or other inappropriate stuff, her parents will get angry at me.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. There is one scene towards the end that is kind of sad, maybe read the book for yourself first to make sure its something she would like.
I might be able to give you a few suggestions. Don’t know how hard you’ll laugh, though.
The Mouse and the Motorcycle, by Beverly Cleary
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, by Robert C. O’Brien
The Rescuers, by Margery Sharp
The Tale of Despereaux, by Kate DiCamillo
Stuart Little, by E. B. White
The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, by Terry Pratchett
The Cricket in Times Square, by George Selden
Redwall by Brian Jacques is a mouse-based fantasy book. I second Mrs Frisby too.
