Hi, have just finished two biographies written by Philip Freeman, one on Alexander the Great and the other on Hannibal Barca. I enjoyed them immensely for their readability and lack of endless footnotes and endnotes that break up the pages. Freeman also writes battles excitingly and has a way of setting the scene of important events that gives the books a cinematic flair.

I am looking for something similar for other figures outside the timeframe of Ancient Greece and Rome, just for the sake of variety. I’m really open to anything, but would be particularly engaged by a biography of Genghis Khan, Napoleon or Charlamagne. With that being said, anything in this vein is on the table and do not be afraid to recommend something outside the exact parameters I’ve given!
