I’m reading in front of a lot of children for our organization’s summer camp. It’s supposed to be of my favorite book as a child. I don’t have anything coming to mind. I’ll have to steal one of your suggestions as my own.
I Like Me by Nancy Carlson. Maybe not the perfect read aloud (it’s very short), but I love it.

the age of the kids is unknown to me, so my fav as a really young one was Ten in the Bed, later on it was The Witch of Blackbird Pond or Anna of Byzantium
