I’m currently reading volume 6 of the Outlander series, and while I love a lot about it, I have more and more these moments where I just want to put the book down. Some plots (another rape!) and decisions of the characters don’t make sense to me anymore – I don’t see the significance for the further development/the plot. I can’t take it serious anymore.

Long story short. I’m looking for a (at best) book series that really captivates me. Here’s what I like:

Diverse characters with complex personalities. I want a deep insight into the emotions and thoughts of a character. I also like a good balance of strong female and male characters (or any other gender).

    Immersive World Building!!!!

Not too much drama just for the sake of it

Romance and sex are nice (not that important though) – it can be dark, complex and passionate too. But I want to understand what meaning it has for the character or her/his* development (if you know what I mean).

I like to read detailed descriptions of surroundings or activities. I want to feel like I’m there, seeing everything in my mind’s eye.

My favorite genres are historical fiction, fantasy and science fiction. As I said, I really like series or thick books where I can follow the character’s development. 🙂

The last series which really captivated me was the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss.

    Thank you for suggestions 😊

    1. Shogun. It’s sort of part of a series of loosely connected standalones, but it’s definitely the best of the bunch.

      Conn Iggulden’s Conqueror series

      Robin Hobb’s Farseer series

      The Expanse
