Suggest some interesting non-fiction for a new reader.

Hello, late reader here. I'm turning 22 in two weeks and I want to start a good habit. I've always liked the idea of reading but never could get into it. I guess it's because I didn't read much when I was a kid. I mostly read short stories back then and now, years later, i can't finish a book. Not even something as short as Animal Farm. I have finished A Study In Scarlet, and so far that's the only book I've picked up and finished (embarrassing). I have several books that I want to read, but haven't.

But that's not to say i don't like reading at all. I've been reading nosleep ever since I discovered reddit and i find it hard to put it down whenever I start. I also recently discovered my love for reading articles and opinions on news sites. I read a review for a book by Simon Kuper (Impossible City: Paris in the Twenty-First Century) on Guardian and I loved reading it. It was refreshing. So I figured it's probably fiction that I don't do too well with, and maybe some non-fiction can help me fix my reading habit (or non-habit).

All of this to say, please suggest some interesting non-fiction. Something like human history, ancient civilization, life in a city, or something. Something that feels like a documentary, but written down. (Or, alternatively, help me with some motivation).
