One of my favorite books is Neverwhere. I really like how Gaiman puts someone from our world into a dimension with strange rules and experiences. I also love his American Gods and Stardust for similar reasons. Just tried Wayward Pines, which I hated for the writing style but loved
Other books with a similar feel that I’ve enjoyed:
The Hike by Drew Magary
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
Slewfoot by Brom
Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The talisman
The space between worlds
Erin Morgenstern’s other book, The Starless Sea, also falls into this category.
If you like that vibe on a smaller scale, you might enjoy Mister Magic by Kiersten White. The characters end up in an uncanny valley/slight “off” location that’s very interesting.
I’ve heard Susanna Clarke does similiar stuff, but Strange & Norrell is a tome…she has short stories though
