Hi! I’m looking for a book along the veins of soldiers coming of age from where they’re stationed? I had a dream about a soldier stationed far from home and his interactions with the local city towards the beginning of war tensions. I want to know if a story like this exists out there.
Could be any time period or any universe/ world. having trouble finding recs from Google and Goodreads. I feel like all I’m getting are “top 10 ways to join the army!” articles and non-fiction books. Any recommendations would help! I can look up other books related to suggestions and that may aid my search.

*redeployment* by phil klay has some of that about the iraq war, but it’s a short story collection instead of a whole novel
