I know this is a bit of an odd question. I did this for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I went to the library to get a book I wanted, but I also took one of the “suggested” books that the librarians put out in front on the display shelves. You probably know what I’m talking about: usually there’s a theme for the display, and several books are showcased, sometimes with a brief description of the book, not unlike Barnes and Noble.

Oftentimes the themes coincide with a holiday (like Halloween) or a big event (like the US presidential election).

For those who frequent the library, have you ever grabbed a display book, or do you do this regularly? Was there a book you grabbed that ended up being really good? If so, what was it?

Oddly, this was a first for me. I’ve always walked into a library knowing what I want, or it’s already been gathered for me and I just need to pick it up on the “holds” shelf.

    1. When I used the physical library, never. It was up at the front, in the middle of the room, and too “exposed” for me to comfortably browse. So I went back to the stacks.

Now that I use Libby I do it all the time. I especially like the monthly themes they often have. I don’t usually go in looking for something in particular, just browsing. I don’t keep a TBR list.

    2. I don’t go to the library often, but I always go through the staff picks at my preferred bookstores and read their recommendation cards. Usually something will jump out to me, and I have had few dudes out of the books I have picked up.
