I really want to be someone who reads a lot. I really romanticize that sort of person.
But I’m in no way an intellectual. I’m not very smart. I never pick up on themes or the deeper meanings of things. I often even have trouble just following the plot! In school I did very poorly in English, my thing was math.
Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Don’t be too hard on yourself! We all have our strengths and areas we excel in, and that’s what makes each of us unique. I, too, sometimes struggle with deep themes and meanings. What’s helped me is diving into genres that genuinely intrigue me, irrespective of how ‘intellectual’ they might seem. Start with something light and gradually work your way into more challenging reads. Reading, just like any other skill, can be honed and developed with practice and patience. Sending positive vibes your way, just keep reading!
