I’ve seen people say that the book is too long but I think I accepted early on in the book that it was going to be a long one and I decided to just take my time and savour it as I just loved how fleshed out all of the characters are.
I read probably the last quarter of the book in about two days and so much happened, I can’t stop thinking about it, and I actually keep forgetting that the characters aren’t real people! I’m horrified by Eddie’s (presumed) death and I grew to adore Marion and Caleb’s relationship – I honestly think they were soulmates, which made it much harder to read the last letter he sent her where he said that he wouldn’t say goodbye (they never did).
There are a few tiny things I didn’t like but overall this was probably the best book I’ve read this year.

I adored “Great Circle” and I thought it was the length it needed to be to give the parallel stories their full measure. I loved how epic and sweeping it was, and the complicated women at the center of the narrative.
Wow, I’m so glad to see other people read this book! I actually read the whole thing while I was visiting Yellowstone, so seeing Missoula on the page and in real life brought a whole new weight to both experiences.
Also totally agree, Marion’s story was absolutely gripping from start to finish, but I wish Hadley’s narrative had a more developed ending.
I loved this book.
This book FUCKED ME UP. The last quarter, like you said, her storytelling and world building is so good that you don’t feel like you’re reading, you’re just in the story, in the timeline. Wild talent.
