Not sure if the title makes sense so I think I’ll just best explain it with examples of books I’ve already read that I feel like fit this. Essentially, I want a protagonist that, for whatever reason, was set up to never get a happy ending from the beginning. This can be in a literal sense (e.g. the book begins with their death and then goes backwards to reveal how they died) or in a metaphorical sense (e.g. they’re the classical “beyond help” character). Non-YA also please.
