I’m just getting into graphic novels and have been loving them. If you could recommend some of your favorites what would they be? I’m open to any but I’d like to get into more adult graphic novels too and was recommended Girl Juice by Benji Nate. I like the vibe of that but some other graphic novels I’ve been into are Persopolis, Anya’s Ghost, Sheets #1, Through the Woods, Wait Till Helen Comes, Seance Tea Party and Lore Olympus. I would prefer non marvel recs please!

    Thanks!

    1. Watchmen (Alan Moore).
      Hellboy (Mike Mignola).
      Enigma (Peter Milligan).
      Four Women (Sam Kieth)

    2. I’m not really a fan of graphic novels but I have really liked the ones by Jeff Lemire. Usually very minimal on word usage and I love his drawings.

N.B. – make sure he’s the author and not just the illustrator. He’s an illustrator for a lot of graphic novels.

I tried to get into them and found all these awesome premises wrapped in beautiful art and no meat. I wanted more fleshed out stories. The only that felt like they delivered on story were From Hell and The Sandman. You can’t miss those but I’m guessing you know em already

Digger by Ursula Vernon, amazing story, the artwork is beautiful (it won a Hugo), and it has just been reprinted!

    5. Saga, Y the Last Man, and Paper Girls from Brian K Vaughn.

      Blacksad by Juan Diaz Canales

      Black Hammer by Jeff Lemire

      Monstress by Marjorie Liu

      March by John Lewis

Hip Hop Family Tree by Ed Piskor

Here are two of my favorite graphic memoirs:

      * Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? by Roz Chast
      * Relish by Lucy Knisley

For what is considered one of the greatest Graphic Novels of all time (and justifiably so), check out Watchmen. It’s a brilliant, layered twist on the superhero genre.

If you like mythology, The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman is an incredible universe to dive into.

If you like more realistic, personal stories, *Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth* by Chris Ware is amazing.

    8. Ouuu I could go on and on but if I had to tell you one thing it would be to read all 3 of Nick Drnaso’s books. Start with Beverly, then Sabrina, then Acting Class. Saw someone mention Fun Home which is obviously THE classic. I recommend Alison Bechdel’s most recent book too, The Secret to Superhuman Strength. Skip Are You My Mother?. I also saw you read Persepolis and would tell you to read the sequel, as well as Chicken and Plums.

Here are a few more that you might know but should definitely check out if you don’t:

      – Ducks by Kate Beaton
      – Blankets by Craig Thompson
      – Black Hole by Charles Burns
      – Marbles by Ellen Forney
      – Spinning by Tillie Walden
      – The Best We Could Do by Thi Bui

Okay I’m stopping now… (See: first sentence)
