In relation to recent events, I’ve become painfully aware that I’m quite ignorant of many things, and I wish to educate myself.

If you can recommend me books on any educational topic you believe is important to be knowledgeable about, that would be greatly appreciated! With a special emphasis on politics and history, of course, but I’m interested in all topics.

Please try to make sure the book isn’t too complicated; English isn’t my first language and I’m still a teenager, so it’s important that it can keep my attention for me to be able to read it.

I apologise for the trouble and thanks in advance <3

    1. I recommend both A Short History of Nearly Everything and The Body by Bill Bryson.

Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall would be my politics suggestion. Not strictly a political book but talks about how geography has shaped politics/culture.

    2. novel-opinions on

{{Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy O’Neil}} talks about how algorithms rule our lives. A lot of the time, for the worse.

{{Kill Switch by Adam Jentleson}} is all about the history of the filibuster and why the US can’t pass legislation anymore (spoiler, it all comes down to white supremacy).

{{How Civil Wars Start by Barbara F. Walter}} discusses the shift towards authoritarianism the world is witnessing and what signs and events generally indicate civil war on the horizon. Also touches on how social media is playing a role in modern day unrest.
