Book from the 80s with gay men/implied homosexual love

A bit of an atypical & tricky post! I’m currently writing a book and needed an existing title to reference in regards to a character.

I’m looking for any book that was published during/before the 1980s, with either a) gay men as characters, b) heavily implied gay relationships, or c) is analyzed in the modern day as an early example of gay history.

I’ve done quite a bit of research and can’t find any book that clicks. Thank you all in advance, and let me know if there’s another subreddit this would be better suited for!
