hi there! im looking for books that have a suspenseful, atmospheric writing style. a few years ago i read ‘the honey farm’ by harriet alida lye and it quickly became a favourite for the way it was written poetically and kept me on the edge of my seat. i definitely veer into literary character-driven fiction and im not into detective/mystery novels typically so it’s been hard to find suspense/thrillers that scratch the itch. recently i read ‘elsewhere’ by alexis schaitkin and loved it — the prose made me feel like there was a veneer over everything that was happening, like i knew what was going on but not to the fullest extent; it wasn’t dense or opaque, but poetic and suspenseful! it made subtle moments feel intense. i’ve been scouring the internet for ‘character driven literary/suspense fiction’ and haven’t come up with results. if anyone can provide any possible recommendations id appreciate it! apologies if this is too specific — i didn’t know where else to look. thank you!
(ps: im new to this subreddit and im not a reddit user generally so i hope i have tagged this post appropriately — apologies if i haven’t.)
