I didn’t enjoy it (or any other Murakami I have read) at all. I have a number of friends who said they loved KotS and Norwegian Wood in their 20s, maybe I would have enjoyed it then. I was nearly 40 and KotS seemed immature and to have a very one-dimensional view of women.

I think its massively overrated.
It’s mostly enjoyed by people who have almost no exposure to contemporary literary fiction or classic Japanese literature and who can put up with a bit of misogyny. Mostly people 15–25 who aren’t widely read and are somewhat pseudointellectual.
