I’m going through a series of milestones and tests to see if my pregnancy is viable / healthy. It’s going to be a difficult month.
I’d love if you all could recommend a book that will really grab me, that isn’t so complicated that I’ll lose the thread if I space out for a minute, and that does not include as major plot points:
pregnancy, infants, miscarriage, infertility, intellectual / developmental disability, multigenerational stories (particularly want to avoid stories where a certain trait or gene shapes the family history)
They don’t have to be totally sunshine and rainbows, but I don’t want the serious or sad content to overlap with my own anxieties.
Books that have filled a similar need for me in the past:
The Secret History – Donna Tartt
The Great Believers – Rebecca Makkai
Recursion – Blake Crouch
Lonesome Dove – Larry McMurtry
Big Little Lies – Liane Moriarty
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow – Gabrielle Zevin

This is a complete departure from the books on your list, but you might enjoy one of Bill Bryson’s books, like *A Walk in the Woods* (about hiking the Appalachian Trail). It’s nonfiction, lighthearted, and frequently very funny.
Also in the realm of nonfiction, you could check out Sarah Vowell. Her books are quite funny as well, and very enjoyable to read.
Best of Travel Writing series is great for interesting and relaxing reads.
If you like Arthurian legend, try The Camulod Chronicles by Jack Whyte. Start with *The Skystone*
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell.
The History of Love by David Krauss.
