I’m reading Crooked Cucumber, a biography of Shunryu Suzuki, who brought Soto Zen to America. I’m reading over his childhood, and it’s very interesting to think this guy who’s had such a broad influence on so many people could’ve easily been a friend I had in my childhood too, based on the snippets of stories so far. I was hoping for people who were born before 100 years ago, but I’m open to other ideas if they’ve made big impact on you.
