Recently read anna karenina, i got the oxfords worlds classics hard cover edition, which has a hand fan on its cover. I thought the hand fan would have some symbolism or importance but i only caught two mentions of it throughout the whole book. Was wondering why they chose the hand fan as the sole illustration on the cover? (For reference, the odyssey has a ship on it and war&peace has a dove)
