Ok, this is a weird one…but I’m looking for novels or short stories involving God in a mysterious way. Preferably in a way that is slightly unconventional and depicts God as a mysterious energy, yet real.
Like someone just drifting through life accidentally figuring out that a God governing the universe is actually real and becoming scared. Or a researcher trying to disprove God and accidentally stumbling on proof. Anything, really.
Nonfiction allowed too.

Here are two sci fi novels that include God in some way:
* Grass by Sheri S. Tepper. This book is extraordinarily brutal to theocracy, and using organized religion for social control. But it does have some mysterious spirituality.
* The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. About the Catholic church meeting aliens. It’s a great book, and written very seriously even though the premise is a bit hard to believe.
This is a definite maybe as it trends more urban fantasy horror, but are you familiar with Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey? A betrayed magician claws his way out of hell for revenge, and over the course of the series argues religion with God and bums cigarettes from the devil.
Chivalry series by Christian Cameron. Set toward the end of the hundred year’s war, it follows the life and career of a knight with an ignoble start. The main character has a growing relationship with God, and the series explores prayer, meditation, pilgrimage, and crusade to name a few aspects of faith. Great period examples of religious practice and belief.
