I was an avid reader as a teenager. I had a particular love for YA love stories/supernatural stories. I also loved reading thriller/horror books.

I still love those things but I’m also now very into true crime, fantasy, sci-fi. But I’m not into major conflict/fighting/war stories.

I’m now 27 years old and haven’t read in quite some time. I want to get back into it but I struggle to get into books just based on the blurb alone.

Can you recommend me some audhd friendly books, similar to my interests and not too long & easy to read?

Open to several suggestions but please tell me why YOU loved whatever it is you’d suggest 😀

I really enjoy Ilona Andrews’s work. It’s solidly fantasy but a couple of the series swing a little bit Sci-fi.

They are snappy books with interesting characters and strong plots that move quickly. I’m not a particularly fast reader but found them very manageable. There’s a lot of hand-to-hand combat in most of them; most of the characters have magical powers as well.

The one that has the least amount of combat is the Innkeeper Series; the first book is Clean Sweep. It’s very fun, and has a really interesting concept at the heart of the books.

    2. Do you think you’d like to try some short stories? Kelly Link is a master of weird short stories, could be a good place to start.
I’m really loving Zen Cho books for fun fantasy as well, they move along nicely and often have a sweet romance (not usually the focus I would say)

Everything Jeff Wheeler has ever penned (fantasy). He weaves beautiful worlds that eventually merge Into each other

The Fifth Doll by Charlie N Holmberg (it’s not really horror, but somewhat terrifying to me lol maybe considered fantasy? Idk I picked it based on the cover and really liked it)

The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchinson hooked me and dragged me into a world that absolutely horrified me

      True crime:

Under the Bridge by Rebecca Godfrey. I’m biased it’s my home town and happened when I was like 5, so I remember a lot but missed a lot.

      Fantasy:

All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness. I feel this is more aimed at the intellectual side as in search for knowledge as power vs. strength. Although slight combat is very minimal.

The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa. I haven’t finished (I’m 50 pgs in), but this is a teen boy and a talking cat.

*For the Wolf/For the Throne* by Hannah Whitten: This duology is set in a fantasy world. Each book is from the perspective of one of two sisters. It is a bit darker than most other fantasy YA I know but it stays interesting until the end. I liked that the story is told through 2 perspectives, it gave the story more depths. It is not big on war/battle scenes, has some good romance storylines and the world-building is well done.

I also suggest *Red Queen* by Victoria Aveyard, even though conflict is a big theme, especially as the story progresses. It is a YA fantasy series of 4 books. The story is really gripping, with enough plot twists to stay interesting and amazing characters with awesome powers. So it’s easy to read, even though it’s not excatly short.

Maybe Howls Moving Castle by Diana Wynn Jones?

It’s a funny romance (actually funny. This is coming from someone who HATES romcoms) set in a world where witchcraft is real and fairly common place.

      Not thriller or horror though.
