I just got done reading normal people and i need another sad romance/coming of age novel. I definitely like the slow burn but would also like there to not be a happy ending. the whole right person wrong time thing over and over again is what i’m going for. (also im not opposed to time pieces, jane eyre is one of my all time favorites)
pleaseeee help me find another one like this

You’ll love “The Great Alone” by Janet Dailey. This is tied with Kate Chopin’s “The Awakening” for the worst book I’ve ever read in my life and the only reason I remember it so well is because I hated it so much. I picked it up off the free shelf at the library when I was in high school in 2007, so almost twenty years ago now, and yet the hatred remains fresh.
This book covers the romances of settlers in Alaska over a 200 year span and not a single wretched one of them has a happy ending. Not a single God damned one. This thing is like 500 pages long, I mean the paperback version is at least three inches thick, and nowhere in there can you find a single plot point that doesn’t make you want to hike deep into the woods of a national park, and kill yourself.
ENJOY.
