I used to work in a famous bookshop chain that’s equivalent of Barne’s and Nobel’s here where I live for 4 months and god I miss it so much. Talking to customers about books and suggesting them, discussing newly translated titles and smelling the books for free was a real joy to me. My store was small so the work that me and another coworker had wasn’t that much, add that customers wouldn’t always come so I had ALOT of time reading whichever book I wanted, this ofc didn’t apply during the holidays when our store was full of people buying every Agatha Christie books. The downsides were that I started working during COVID-19 so as expected, I had customers who would forget to put on the mask and whenever I reminded them to put it on, they give bad looks and even getting verbally angry at me, had a moment when a priest came in with no mask and when I told them to put it on, they gave me some paper and told me that they had some kind of illness and scolded me for “how dare asking that”, as if I knew. Another downside was that the pay sucked which was the biggest reason I left the job, if not for that I would have stayed there instead of the current job which I despise.
