I recently tried to read “Catch-22” by Joseph Heller and I hated it. I could only read a couple of chapters and I found it awful. I hated the all the characters and the style. WTF. I can’t believe it is considered a classic. It sucks. I’m starting to think there is something wrong with me. I really don’t mind weird postmodern fiction, I liked “Slaughterhouse Five” by Kurt Vonnegut.
Can anyone recommend a classic that is actually good and fun to read? I want to read for fun and not feel like I’m back in school.
I just started “The Count of Monte Christo” by Alexandra Dumas and I like it. Ten Billion times better than Catch-22.
Any suggestions for other classic books like The Count of Monte Christo?

I mean, you understand this is opinion, right? Plenty of people enjoy 99% of classics and some enjoy 0%.
What you’re really asking could be: “are there easy to read and/or maybe action heavy classics you can recommend”? You don’t really specify anything else so that’s the only conclusion to draw from it.
For that you have obviously the rest of Dumas’s work, but you could also try *The Great Gatsby*, *Of Mice and Men*, or maybe the Sherlock Holmes stories.
The Hound of the Baskervilles. It’s a classic and it’s longer than most Sherlock Holmes stories.
You try the other books written by Alandre Duma. If you are interested by adventure you can also try Jules Verne’s book. I think Dangerous Liaisons is also accessible. We also have Maupassant’s work especially his fantastic short stories that even someone who don’t like most classics could enjoy. And if you want something epic and easy to read you can try Chretien de Troyes’ novels.
