Suggest me a book about detective stories and all kind of classic stories
I want to learn about all there is to detective stories so I want a guide to them and also plenty of suggestions about their different types (closed room mystery ,whodunnit and others idk about) pls :’)
I’m not sure there is such a book but some Redditor may know differently!
There is an interesting, recently published non-fic book by crime writer Martin Edwards – The Golden Age of Murder – which looks at the generation of classic detective story writers from the 1920s to the 1950s – these writers – including people like Agatha Christie – were members of The Detection Club, which was an exclusive club just for crime writers and they swapped ideas, tried to solve real-life crimes and worked to keep up the standards of their genre.
I would imagine if you read this book, you’d get a good idea as to what sort of range of stories there were, the types of plots etc, and what was considered ‘good’ writing and what was not [for example, members of the club were disallowed from ever writing a mystery where the crime was committed by one of a pair of twins!]
