Hi Guys! I used to read a lot as a kid, but life happened and forgot to give myself some time to read. I’m planning to buy myself an E-reader, and try to get myself back to reading. What kind of books can you recommend that made you feel lost in a book (I miss that feeling). Preferably Y/A Romance or Mystery/Thriller but anything aside that is also fine.

If you can tell why, or give a bit of background about the book would be great too. Thanks in advance!

When you mention mysteries, and wanting to get lost in the story, I immediately think of Sherlock Holmes. Not sure if you’re read any of the stories or books, for me the writing of Doyle really sets the mood for foggy and damp London and I feel like I’m a fly on the wall, watching the story unfold. Very atmospheric writing and I enjoy getting to know characters in-depth.

Another mystery series I really enjoy are the Nero Wolfe books, by Rex Stout. They’re fairly quick reads and again, Stout’s writing really conveys the atmosphere of Wolfe’s brownstone, and the city, and you get to know the idiosyncrasies of the main characters quite well (I wish Fritz Brenner was cooking my meals). Generally I find them to be an entertaining read. I gave away my collection, sigh, and am repurchasing them via used bookstores so I can reread them again.

Edit: When I’m reading a Nero Wolfe mystery book, I feel like I’m sitting at the kitchen table, or in the office, privy to all the going’s on in this house (as Wolfe does not like to leave the house, nor the prized orchids in his attic).

Hope that helps and I hope you enjoy getting back into reading! Good luck ☺️
