Prior to 2021 I had read exactly 0 books since I graduated high school 15 years ago. Since 2021 I’ve tried to pick up reading as a hobby. So far I’ve read:
The guest List – Lucy Foley
The Lies I tell – Julie Clark
the Midnight Library – Matt Haig
Where the Crawdads sing – Delia Owens
I also got about 1/3 of the way through The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo but just wasn’t into it.
I’m looking for a recommendation for the next book to start. I LOVED the midnight library. That was hands down my favorite. I’m looking for something suspenseful and well written. i partly picked up reading as a way to connect with other people so I’m also looking for something popular.
Any recommendations based on my previous reads?

When I read Where the Crawdads Sing, it made me think of author Pat Conroy. My favorite book by Conroy is The Prince of Tides.
Matt Haigs other books are good too
**Here is a variety** (peaked your profile to see what may interest you):
My Year of Rest and Relaxation
Gone Girl
Rock Paper Scissors (by Alice Feeney)
Guncle
Nothing to See Here
House in the Cerulean Sea
Jitterbug Perfume
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe
The Help
Unhoneymooners
Nightbitch (I suggest reading this one asap! One of my newer all time faves.)
The Push
One for the Money
Spellman Files
Shit Cassandra Saw
Unsure what didn’t capture you about Evelyn Hugo, but if you want to try another book in that era, which I actually liked better overall (although social commentary in Evelyn was stronger) – look into City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
**Try some non-fic too? (These are all excellent on audio, I’d you want to try some audiobooks also):**
Braiding Sweetgrass
Mom Truths (by Cat & Nat)
Shrill
Animal Vegetable Miracle
Greenlights
Wild: From lost to found on the Pacific Crest Trail
The Sundown Motel
Truly Devious series
One of Us is Lying series
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
In the Woods
We Were Liars
Shoot the Moon
